INSIGHTS & NOTES FROM
CHAPTER 132
"When needful work is to be done for God it is good for us to task ourselves, & tie ourselves to a time, because we are apt to put off." "Righteousness is the best ornament of a minister. Holiness towards God, & goodness towards all men, are habits for ministers of the necessity of which there is no dispute." "'We have no merit of our own to plead, but for his sake in whom there is a fulness of merit, let us find favour.'" "The delight God takes in his church, & the continuance of his presence with his church, are the comfort & joy of all its members." "God gives more than we ask, & when he gives salvation he will give an abundant joy." "...Christ's crown shall endure to all eternity & the crowns reserved for his faithful subjects are such as fade not away." CHAPTER 133 "...believers are taught of God to love one another; it is a grace of his working in us." "Thus holy love is, in the sight of God, of great price; & that is precious indeed which is so in God's sight." "Loving people are blessed people." "The blessing which God commands on those that dwell in love is life for evermore; that is the blessing of blessings." "Those that live in love & peace shall have the God of love & peace with them now, & they shall be with him shortly, with him for ever, in the world of endless love & peace. How good then is it, & how pleasant!" CHAPTER 134 "We are the servants of the Lord; we have a place & a name in his house, in his sanctuary; we stand before him to minister to him." "Let us therefore bless the Lord, & again bless him; think & speak of his glory & goodness. Let us lift up our hands in prayer, in praise, in vows; let us do our work with diligence & cheerfulness, & an elevation of mind." CHAPTER 135 "The duty we are called to - to praise the Lord, to praise his name; praise him, & again praise him." "Those have most reason to praise God who are admitted to the privileges of his house, & those see most reason who there behold his beauty & taste his bounty" "The gods of the heathen can do nothing; but our God can do any thing" "No power of hell or earth can prevent the accomplishment of the promise of God when the time, the set time, for it has come." "God is, & will be, always the same to his church, a gracious, faithful, wonder-working God; & his church is, & will be, the same to him, a thankful praising people" "Let us set ourselves about the acts of devotion, & employ ourselves in them: Bless the Lord, & again & again, bless the Lord." "The condescensions of his grace, in dwelling with men upon the earth, call for our grateful & thankful returns, & our repeated Hallelujahs."
